UWL wins men's title by half a point

UW-La Crosse was disqualified from its final event, the 4x400 relay, but it didn't matter as the Eagles already led MIT by half a point, and that half a point proved to be the margin of victory. The Eagles won their 19th NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field championship.

UWL has won 12 of the past 20 indoor titles and have 15 outdoor titles to go with the 19 indoor crowns.

MIT finished second, matching the program's highest-ever finish, which came in 1990.

Head coach Josh Buchholtz has now led UWL to nine NCAA Division III titles, including five indoor (2009, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2023) and four outdoor (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017).

UWL's Sam Blaskowski and Ethan Gregg each earned individual NCAA Division III titles on Saturday. Blaskowski is the second sprinter in school history to win the 60-meter dash after a finals time of 6.71 on Saturday. He joins Alex Koenen (2016) to win the 60-meter dash title. Blaskowski earned his second NCAA Division III All-America accolade on Saturday with a second-place finish (21.16) in the 200-meter dash.

Gregg became the first runner in UWL history to capture the 3,000-meter run national title with a time of 8:01.23 on Saturday. His time of 8:01.23 breaks the national meet record of 8:10.40 set by North Central (Ill.) runner John Crain in 2014. Gregg also broke his own school record of 8:09.94 set earlier this season at Pat Healy Classic on January 21.

It is Gregg's second All-America award of this year's championships after placing third (13:53.93) in the 5,000-meter run on Friday.

UWL has now won 52 individual NCAA Division III championships (including relays) in school history.

UWL's Nolan Seaberg finished 17th in the heptathlon with 4,363 points. The competition concluded on Saturday with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run. The heptathlon included the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump on Friday.

The Eagles' Nathan Andringa placed 10th (6-8) in the high jump on Saturday.

In other results on Saturday, Adam Loenser was 19th (8:43.78) in the 3,000-meter run. UWL's Luke Schroeder was disqualified in the 60-meter hurdles final while the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay of Addison Hill, Caden Pearce, Tyler Backes and Chase Doornink were also disqualified.
