Royals Survive 4 Overtime Thriller To Defeat Muhlenberg, 8-7, Saturday

ALLENTOWN, Pa.—It took more than 74 minutes and four overtime periods to finally decide a winner between The University of Scranton and Muhlenberg College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

Junior attacker Taylor Nelson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) settled it, scoring a goal off of a play set up by sophomore midfielder Mike Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) to lift the Royals to an 8-7 victory.  Scranton, which trailed 7-4 entering the final period of play, received four goals from senior midfielder Mike Rufo (Broomall, Pa./Haverford School), two from junior attacker Kyle Frank (Glen Arm, Md./Boys' Latin), and an assist from sophomore midfielder John Gregitis (Wayne, Pa./St. Joseph's Preparatory).

Junior goalie Ben Worthington (Jenkintown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made a career-high 20 saves, including one in the first overtime period and two in the second overtime period.  His effort is tied for the 16th-most in Scranton history.

Junior attacker Jack Reilly (Boonton Township, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and junior midfielder AJ Diaz (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) led the Mules, now 2-2, with two goals apiece and senior midfielder Alex Ardolino (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) finished with a goal and an assist.

The Royals sent the game into overtime with two fourth-period goals by Rufo and one by Nelson.

Scranton is now 2-0 for the third straight season.

The Royals will host Nazareth College this Wednesday, March 7, at 3:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
