Catholic Downs Guilford, 12-8

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Marc Saxton scored four goals in visiting Catholic University of America's 12-8 lacrosse win at Guilford College Saturday.

Saxton and teammate Chris Fuccillo both scored twice during a decisive second half, which saw the Cardinals (6-1) overcome a 6-4 second-quarter deficit. Late second-quarter goals by Fuccillo and Brendan Englert made the halftime score 6-6 and triggered an 8-1 Catholic run.

Catholic's Tom Scotto won 14 of 22 face-off attempts and picked up a game-high seven ground balls, which helped the Cardinals control possession. Catholic's man-down unit successfully killed off five second-half penalties and goalie Patrick Pfaff made five of his 10 saves in the final two quarters to preserve the Cardinals' fifth straight win.

Saxton netted Catholic's first two goals and its last two tallies. His man-up goal with 8:17 remaining in the fourth quarter opened a 12-7 lead. Fuccillo had three scores and Englert finished with two goals and an assist. Sean Cummins and Brian Keith both scored a goal and an assist.

Guilford's Henry Farley paced the Quakers' offense with four points on two goals and two assists. Greg Nash tallied twice and had an assist. His second goal capped a 4-0 second quarter run that gave the hosts a 6-4 lead. Taylor Teodosio also scored twice for the Quakers. Thomas Deane made 11 saves in goal.
