Dogbey's Hat Trick Powers Anchormen Past Lancers, 3-0

Providence, R.I.--Junior forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) scored the third hat trick of his career to lead the Rhode Island College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory against Worcester State in a non-conference contest played at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon.

RIC (7-3-1) got on the board just three minutes into the game when Dogbey headed in a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kevin Tay Munoz (Providence, RI). The Anchormen took the one goal lead heading into halftime after outshooting Worcester State (4-5) by an 11-6 margin.

Dogbey put RIC up 2-0 at the 47:29 mark after he took a throw in from sophomore midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI) and had some fancy footwork on the end line. Dogbey dribbled past a Worcester State defender and slipped a shot into the corner of the net from five yards out for the two goal advantage.

Dogbey capped off the hat trick, his first of the 2016 campaign, when he took a header from Vazquez and went on a breakaway down the middle of the field.  Dogbey then buried the ensuing shot into the back of the net in the 74th minute to propel the Anchormen to the 3-0 victory.

RIC senior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) recorded his fourth shutout of the season and 13th of his career with a five-save effort, while freshman Henri Guilmette (Franklin, MA) took the loss in goal for the Lancers with same amount of stops.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East action at home against Western Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 8 (1 p.m.).
