OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) posted four hits and sophomore Meredith Taylor (Hamilton, N.J./Northern Burlington) connected on three extra-base hits in support of two more dominant pitching performances as Gettysburg College completed a sweep of Stevenson University.
Gettysburg (10-4) took the opener 5-0 and the nightcap 2-1.
Junior Aileen Reilly (Huntington Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) twirled another gem in the opening game. Reilly allowed just three hits and struck out six in her third shutout of the season. She has not allowed an earned run in her last four appearances and improved to 4-3 this season.
The Bullets put runners in scoring position in their first two at bats in the opening game, but didn't score until the third when Abell drew a lead-off walk and scored on a double by Taylor. Abell helped make it a 2-0 advantage by leading off the fifth with a double and later coming home on a sacrifice fly by junior Wendy Folfas (Westminster, Md./McDonogh School).
Stevenson (3-5) threated in the home half of the fifth with the first two runners reaching base and advancing to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Reilly mowed down the next two hitters with strikeouts to escape the jam.
Gettysburg padded the lead in its final at bat. Freshman Taylor Doi (Foster City, Calif./San Mateo) led off with a double and scored on a single to right by Abell. Taylor came to the dish next and the sophomore blasted her second homer of the spring.
Abell went 3-for-3 with three runs, a walk, and one RBI. Taylor finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Doi went 2-for-4 with a run.
Gettysburg took the lead in game two with sophomore Sophia Blasius (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) driving home the first run with a single to center field in the first inning. Stevenson answered right away in the bottom of the inning with Erin Stephey hitting a lead-off home run. The Mustangs put two more runners in scoring position that inning, but the Bullet defense closed the door with a grounder to first and a fly out to center field.
Gettysburg's offense was quiet for most of the nightcap, putting only three runners on base over the course of the next five innings. Sophomore Morgan Clauser (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) kept the Mustangs at bay over the same span, allowing just one more runner to reach scoring position before the seventh inning.
The bottom of the order came through in the seventh inning for Gettysburg. Senior Sam Misurell (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) drew a lead-off walk and pinch-runner Sara Seuffert (Morristown, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a wild pitch allowed Seuffert to trot down to third, senior Genie Lavanant (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Blair Academy) brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Stevenson put each of the first two runners on base in its final at bat, but three consecutive fly outs to right field finished the contest.
Clauser improved to 6-1 after allowing six hits and striking out two. Blasius was the lone Bullet with multiple base knocks, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
