Southworth Leads Mount Ida To Tri-Match Sweep Of Dean, Pratt Institute

FRANKLIN, Mass. --  Junior Brett Southworth (Orange, Conn.) registered 23 kills and five service aces to lead Mount Ida to a sweep of host Dean (3-1) and the Pratt Institute (3-0) in a non-league college men's volleyball tri-match played Sunday afternoon at Pieri Gymnasium.

 

Southworth notched a double-double effort of 17 kills, 12 digs and three service aces in the visiting Mustangs (3-2) 25-21, 25-21, 14-25, 25-21 opening triumph over the host Bulldogs (2-2), while fellow junior Nate Gyampo (Providence, R.I.) added four kills and 14 digs in the first win.  Freshman Isaac Reed (Keene, N.H.) collected three kills and seven digs in the lid-lifter for Mount Ida, which received a double-double performance of 23 set assists and 10 digs from sophomore Kevin Keohane (Jefferson, N.J.) along with three kills from freshman Tyler Dorfman (West Hartford, Conn.).

 

Freshman Joel Carmona (Lawrence, Mass.) posted a double-double effort of 16 kills and 10 digs in the opening setback for Dean, which ended the day with a 3-0 sweep of Pratt.  Fellow freshman Diondre Charros (Fairhaven, Mass.) added 13 kills, seven digs and four service aces for the Bulldogs, who received a double-double performance of 28 set assists and 14 digs from junior Bobby Tetreault (Mattapoisett, Mass.) as well as three kills and eight digs from senior Dean Bennett (Bloomfield, N.J.).

 

Southworh collected six kills and three service aces in the Mustangs' 25-9, 25-11, 25-15 nightcap triumph over Pratt (0-2), while sophomore Andre Foster (Davis, Calif.) also recorded six kills, three digs and a pair of service aces for the winners.  Reed chipped in with three kills and four service aces for Mount Ida, which received 18 set assists and four digs from Keohane in the second contest.

 

Sophomore Dean Liaw (Ridgewood, N.J.) posted a pair of kills in the season-opening setback for the Cannoneers, who received four digs from fellow sophomore Albi Marke (Staten Island, N.Y.) along with three set assists from sophomore Kristopher Patton (Holbrook, N.Y.).

 

Mount Ida heads to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Pine Manor in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m., while both Dean and Pratt travel to Bronxville, N.Y. next Sunday morning for a non-league tri-match at Sarah Lawrence.
