Softball opens season with split

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Nichols College softball team defeated Geneva 15-3 in the season-opener before dropping a 10-9 decision to Brockport Saturday in non-conference action at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at the Centurylink Sports Complex.

Nichols 15, Geneva 3
Seniors Kasey Ayer and Kendall Meehan each drove in three runs while junior Callie Andrews, along with sophomores Amanda Alioto and Cara Mayhew, each plated three runs for the Bison. Sophomore Alexis Ferris fanned 10 in five innings to earn the win.
 
Brockport 10, Nichols 9
Ayer picked up two hits and two RBI while sophomore Taylor Commesso had a pair of hits and scored twice for Nichols. Freshman Shannon Morin gave up seven hits and seven runs (five earned) with three walks in her first collegiate start.
