Hamline Lacrosse Falls to Colorado College

The Hamline lacrosse team didn't quite catch a tiger by the tail Sunday.

But they came close.

The Pipers held nationally ranked (and undefeated) Colorado College to its lowest goal output of the season in a 12-8 loss Sunday at Klas Field.

HU held a 3-1 first half lead and was still within a goal of the Tigers well into the second half before giving way for the first defeat of the season after 11 wins.

Alycia Monserrate Novotny torched the Tigers form four goals with Radian Lenz and Maya Hernandez adding two each.

Molly Dionne was stout in the HU goal, making 14 saves.

The game stats revealed just how close things were. CC, 14-0 on the year, held a 30-25 edge in total shots but just a thin 25-24 advantage in ground balls.

Lenz's two goals 1:48 apart gave Hamline that 3-1 lead 11:30 into the game. The Tigers responded with four goals and went to the intermission with a 5-4 lead. In the second half, CC scored the first two goals only to see the Pipers climb back within one on tallies by Hernandez and Monserrate Novotny. The Tigers, however, garnered the next four goals and held off a late HU rally for the decision.

Eva King scored four goals to lead CC, which was also held to 12 tallies against Claremont-Mudd Scripps March 10.

The Pipers get back to Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play Tuesday, April 16 against Northwestern. HU is in first place with an 8-0 won-loss mark in MWLC play. This is a make up for a game that was postponed last week due to the snowstorm that blew through St. Paul. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
