Men's Tennis Closes Season In NCAA Second Round

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 26 Whitman College men's tennis team saw its season come to an end, falling to No. 13 Trinity (Texas) 5-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

The Blues close the season at 12-11 with the Tigers (17-9) moving on to play host CMS in Saturday's third round matchup.

Whitman found itself with a serious hill to climb after dropping all three doubles matches. The pair of Adam Rapoport and Rajul Chikkalingaiah was the first to fall, losing 8-5 at the three to Trinity's Wilson Hamilton and Christian Settles.

The Tigers then assured themselves of the lead heading to singles with a win on the No. 2 court. Daniel Foster and Ben Kirsh were outdone 8-4 by the Trinity pair of Cameron Krimbill and Artur Zigman.

Trinity made quick work of the Blues with a pair of sweeps in singles. Krimbill topped Rapoport 6-1, 6-0 at the three with Alex Hwang falling on the No. 4 court to Hamilton 6-2, 6-1 for the match clincher.

Despite the quick finish in singles, three of the other four matches saw Whitman up a set including Chikkalingaiah and Andreas Mueller-Immergluck who also held second-set leads.
