MIT Engineers 2-0 Non-League Victory At UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  First half goals from senior Isaac Perper (Tiburon, Calif.) and junior Carlos Hernandez (Weston, Fla.) lifted MIT to a 2-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over UMass Dartmouth Wednesday evening at Cressy Field.

Perper gave the visiting Engineers (1-0-1) the only tally they would need just 1:20 into the match when he converted a pass from freshman Rami Bikdash (Oak Ridge, N.C.) on a breakaway, and Hernandez provided an insurance marker with 6:55 to play in the first half after blasting a direct kick from 15 yards out to account for the final margin.

Senior Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for MIT with a six save effort, while sophomore Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) made 11 stops in the season opening setback for the host Corsairs (0-1).  The Engineers outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 15-9 margin overall (13-6 on goal) and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks for the evening.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Massachusetts Maritime in a non-league outing on Monday evening at Cressy Field beginning at 7:00 pm, while MIT entertains Framingham State in a non-league match on Saturday evening in Cambridge, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 pm.
