Morales, Monteiro Combine For Nine Points As UMass Dartmouth Tops Massachusetts Maritime, 4-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Sophomore Rony Morales (Seekonk, Mass.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for five points to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 4-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Monday evening at Cressy Field.

Morales gave the host Corsairs (1-1) the only goal they would need in the 18th minute of play with a header off a feed from senior Junior Monteiro (New Bedford, Mass.), and freshman Matthew Alvarez (Seekonk, Mass.) extended that margin to 2-0 in the 25th minute when he converted a Morales pass on a breakaway for his first collegiate tally.  The Morales-Monteiro combination clicked once again with 8:34 remaining in the first half, as Morales netted his second of the night from 15 yards out, and Monteiro closed out the scoring eight minutes after intermission when he converted a deflection in front to finish with a four-point performance.

Sophomore Jake Castro (Swansea, Mass.) picked up the shutout win in goal with a five-save effort for UMass Dartmouth, while sophomore Mitch Hardy (Pepperell, Mass.) made three first half stops in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (1-3-1).  Sophomore John Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) registered a pair of second half saves for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Corsairs outshot the Buccaneers by a 17-8 margin overall (9-5 on goal) for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth heads to Newport, R.I. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Salve Regina in a non-league outing beginning at 4:00 pm, while Massachusetts Maritime hosts Nichols in a non-league match on Wednesday evening in Buzzards Bay, Mass. that begins at 7:00 pm.
