Volleyball holds off stubborn Cobbers for 3-1 win

Madie Kroehler had 15 kills and 20 digs and No. 21 ranked St. Thomas Volleyball finally opened its home season Wednesday night with a hard-fought 3-1 defeat of Concordia-Moorhead in Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies won a marathon four-set match 25-18, 33-31, 24-26, 26-24.

Coach Thanh Pham's Toms -- who played their first 16 matches of 2019 off campus -- scored the final three points of set four to close out the victory and avert a fifth set.

This marks St. Thomas' second best September record (14-3) in the last six seasons.

St. Thomas (14-3 overall, 2-0 MIAC) also received:

  • 54 assists and 22 digs from Grace Anetipa;
  • 40 digs from Ellie Meyer; 32 digs from Meghan Mazzola;
  • 17 kills from Fran Egan; 16 kills from Selena Levendoski;
  • and 13 kills from Kate Achenbach.

The Cobbers (4-11, 1-1) received 15 kills and 24 digs from Anna Brakke, and 13 kills and 14 digs from Brook Carney.

St. Thomas has a weekend off competition ahead and plays at St. Mary's next Wednesday Oct. 2.
