Gators score record 13 goals in shutout over Wells

Albany, NY—Sophomore forward Sara O'Connor (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) and sophomore Jenna Egan (Germantown, NY/Germantown) scored three goals each to lead The Sage Colleges field hockey team to a 13-0 victory over Wells College at the University at Albany's Alumni Field Friday night.

The victory, which set a record for goals scored in a game by Sage, improved the Gators to 3-5 on the season, while the Express now stands 0-7 after this non-league contest.

The Gators got two goals each from sophomore Charity Rushinski (Shusan, NY/Salem Central),sophomore midfielder/forward Kathryn Gallagher (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) and freshman forward Emily Schnoop (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls). Sage got a single goal by junior midfielder/forward Hayley Mato (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills). Sophomore midfielder/forward Cortney Conley (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had three assists and sophomore back/midfielder Brooke Perry (Hampton, NY/Granville) added two assists. Rushinski and Schnoop had one assist each as well as freshman forward Madalyn Milligan (Canastota, NY/Canastota).

Sophomore goalkeeper Abigayle Greier (Elma, NY/Iroquois Central) joined senior goalkeeper Alicia Swavely (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) combined for the shutout, and Swavely played the final three quarters.

Sage had all 42 shots in the game, and Wells goalkeeper Sabrina Burns made 17 saves for the Express. The Gators scored six goals in the first quarter and led 9-0 at halftime.

The Gators are right back in action at home at UA Alumni Field Sunday for a 5 p.m. game against Dean. Wells hosts Lancaster Bible on October 5 at 1 p.m.
