THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Trailing 1-0 with 4:39 to play in regulation, MIT first-year Richter Brzeski (Los Angeles, Calif. ) registered the game tying goal which sent the match to extra time, however it ultimately resulted in a draw in today's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match against WPI. Neither team scored in extra time as MIT and WPI came away with a 1-1 double OT draw.
SCORING SUMMARY:
- 20th minute (19:12) - WPI scored the game's first goal as Luke Reiniger finished a through ball from Brandon Hima into the back left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
- 86th minute (85:21) - Brzeski notched his third goal of the season with 4:39 to play in regulation. Goalkeeper Jeremy Cowham (Quincy, Mass.) set up the play with a long free kick, which went off the head of Will Seiple (Boulder, Colo.) inside the box and landed at the feet of Brzeski. Brzeski immediately lined up for a shot and fired the ball into the right corner of the net, knotting the game up at 1-1.
- Overtime - WPI outshot MIT 5-3 and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks in the 20 minutes of overtime. Cowham stopped three shots for the Engineers in the first overtime session, while WPI keeper Rufus Adamsmade one save for the visitors as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Over the course of 110 minutes of action in Cambridge, WPI held a slim 16-14 margin in shots and earned 11 corner kicks compared to just one for MIT.
- Cowham (4-0-4) made a season-high seven saves for MIT, while Adams stopped the ball six times for WPI. Cowham also registered his first collegiate assist in the draw.
- MIT remained undefeated this season and extended its unbeaten streak to 12 matches, which is two shy of tying the program record. MIT is now one of six teams in New England without a loss in the 2019 season.
- WPI came into today's match ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III New England poll.
- The all-time series remained even after the draw today as the record stands at 36-36-6 dating back to 1923. This is the second consecutive season in which the head to head regular season matchup has ended in a 1-1 double overtime decision.
