Simic propels Men’s Soccer past New Paltz in double OT, 2-1

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Nemanja Simic (Grand Island/Grand Island) tallied his third goal of the season to lift Buffalo State to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over visiting New Paltz in a SUNYAC contest this afternoon.

FINAL SCORE:  Buffalo State – 2, New Paltz – 1 (2OT)

LOCATION: Coyer Field – Buffalo, N.Y.

RECORDS: Buffalo State (9-1/2-1), New Paltz (6-4/0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Buffalo State controlled the play early in the contest and were rewarded in the 12th minute as Theo Pencic (Oslo, Norway) lobbed a pass to Ali Shawish (Lackawanna/Lackawanna) who buried the shot in the bottom left corner to give the Bengals an early lead.
  • New Paltz responded just under six minutes later as they evened the score with a goal in the 18th minute.
  • The Bengals outshot the Hawks 20-9 in the remainder of regulation but could not break through as the contest headed to overtime.
  • After a back-and-forth first overtime that failed to produce a goal off of a combined six shots, the game extended to a second overtime.
  • Buffalo State finally broke the deadlock as Shawish sent a through ball to a curling Simic who slid a shot inside the left post, just under two minutes into the second overtime period, to close out the win.
  • Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) finished with five saves for the Bengals.
