Pipers Use Their Heads To Defeat Wis-Stout, 3-0

The Hamline women's soccer team used their heads (twice) and their feet (once) en route to a 3-0 victory over Wisconsin-Stout Sunday at Paterson Field.

Cailey Schmitt scored twice and set up the other goal for the Pipers, who improved to 5-8 overall.

HU controlled play throughout the game, outshooting the Blue Devils, 26-3. The Pipers launched 16 of those shots with Schmitt and Ciara Gregory leading the way with four shots apiece that landed on target. HU also held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Schmitt opened the scoring at 33:07, heading in a pass from Carin Currier. It was the lone tally of the first 45 minutes of play.

Early in the second half, Schmitt struck again. This time, Gaby Diaz slipped a pass to Schmitt, who laced a shot from 18 yards out into the back of the net.

Less than three minutes later, Schmitt's corner kick was perfectly headed in by Anna Browne for her third goal of the season to finish the scoring.

Lauren Sicora played the first half in goal and earned the win. Melanie Hopkins played the second half to share in the shutout.

The Pipers are off until Saturday, October 19 when they visit St. Thomas. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
