St. Thomas stays hot, runs win streak to seven

First-place Tommie Men's Soccer recorded a goal in each half and posted another solid defensive day to score a 2-0 home win over Hamline in MIAC play Saturday at South Field.

Coach Jon Lowery's Tommies (8-3-3 overall, 7-1-1 MIAC) secured one of six league playoff berths with today's victory. They can lock up a first-round bye with one win or two ties in their remaining two MIAC contests.

In running their win streak to seven games, St. Thomas stayed atop the conference standings by one game over Gustavus.

Lucas Horton scored in the 38th minute, and Jake Makela added an insurance score in the 84th minute. Isaac Eckroth and Sean Kurtenbach recorded assists.

The Purple's defense has not allowed a goal in the last nine halves of play since letting in an early goal against St. John's on Oct. 1 in an eventual 3-1 win.

The Purple are home Sunday to face St. Scholastica in a Senior Day, non-conference battle (1 p.m.).
