Augsburg women outlast Tommies in OT

Senior Tamira McLemore scored four points to lead an 11-2 overtime run that sent No. 21-ranked Augsburg to a 69-65 victory over No. 9-ranked St. Thomas in MIAC women's basketball play Wednesday night at Schoenecker Arena.

Jazmyn Solseth had 19 points and nine rebounds before fouling out in the fourth period for the Auggies (9-1 overall, 5-0 MIAC). McLemore finished with 12 points.

Sophomore Brynne Rolland had 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead St. Thomas (6-2, 3-2). Sophomore Shayla Wallin added nine points and 10 rebounds, Abby Mackenthun scored 11 points, and Madi Schirmer had nine points and five assists.

The Toms outrebounded the Auggies 45-35 but had 23 turnovers. Augsburg had only 12 turnovers to offset its 39 percent shooting from the field and 12-of-21 shooting at the foul line.

The Auggies trailed 45-35 late in the third quarter before they uncorked a 23-6 run to build a 58-51 lead with 3:12 to play.

But Wallin sank a 3-pointer with 55 seconds left and made a layup with 16 seconds to go to cap a 7-0 Tommie run that tied the game at 58-58.

St. Thomas is idle for final exams over the coming days and plays two games Dec. 29-30 at Wisconsin Dells against UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater.
