Softball Sweeps John Carroll in Regular Season Finale

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out the regular season portion of its schedule as it swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over crosstown rival John Carroll University in on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (22-14, 11-5 OAC) scored six runs on seven hits as it plated three runs in both the first and fourth innings.  John Carroll (6-29, 2-16 OAC) scored four runs on 11 hits as it pushed three runs across the plate in the sixth and one in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Senior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-3 with a run batted-in (RBI)

In the Circle

  • Junior right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her 11th game of the season as she allowed four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored five runs on 11 hits as they plated one run in the first, second, third and fifth innings and one on the game-winning sacrifice fly by Bricker in the bottom of the 10th.  The Blue Streaks scored four runs on seven hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the first, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Sophomore first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs
  • Sophomore right handed pitcher Maddie Lester (Boardman) went 2-for-5 with a triple, run scored and RBI
  • Sophomore right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-4 with a run scored

In the Circle

  • Lester earned her ninth win of the season as she allowed four runs on seven hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts and nine walks

BW, who clinched the third seed in the OAC Tournament, is back in action on Thursday, May 9 when it travels to Alliance for its opening game of the tournament against second seed Muskingum University on the 23rd Street Softball Field on the campus of top-seed the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m.
