La PLUME, Pa.—The Keystone College men's lacrosse team could not maintain its early momentum in Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game against Rosemont College.
The Giants opened up a 2-0 lead before the Ravens fought back to take a 7-5 lead by intermission and went on to post a 13-9 victory. The loss drops Keystone to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the CSAC, while the Ravens improve to 1-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Freshman Dylan Hummel and junior Ben Koszelak combined for eight goals and four assists and juniors Nick Giangiullio and Malik Slye combined to win 16 of 26 face-offs as the Ravens turned things around after falling behind 2-0 in the opening three minutes of the first period.
Senior attacker Ivor Corlette (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) tied a Keystone single-game record by scoring five goals, senior attacker Matthew Grobelny (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) contributed two goals, and senior midfielder Caleb Strope (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and junior Alec Lloyd (York, Pa./York Catholic) finished with one apiece for the Giants, who trailed 11-8 after three periods but managed just one more goal the rest of the way.
Hummel gave the Ravens a big spark in the first half, scoring all four of his goals before intermission. Koszelak took over after that, scoring three of his four goals in the final 30 minutes of play.
The Giants closed Rosemont's lead to two, 11-9, with 12:37 left in the fourth period on a goal by Grobelny that was set up by Corlette, but Koszelak scored twice within a three-minute span to set the final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Vazquez (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) finished with 11 saves for Keystone, while freshman Mark Porter was credited with nine stops for Rosemont.
The Ravens held a 39-31 advantage in shots and a 41-32 margin in ground balls.
Keystone will return to CSAC action next Saturday, April 14, against Neumann University in Aston, Pennsylvania, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
