Latranyi Has Career Day as Alfred Falls to Sage

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's lacrosse team hosted The Sage Colleges to open Empire 8 conference play on Saturday. The Gators defeated the Saxons (1-4, 0-1 Empire 8) by a score of 19-8.

Madison Latranyi (Danville, PA/Danville Area) put on a highlight reel performance as she accounted for all eight of AU's goals, with seven of those goals being unassisted. The eight goals were a career high for Latranyi and is just two off the single game AU women's lacrosse goal record.

Latranyi also tied the Alfred University single game draw control record with 12. She led the team with six caused turnovers and picked up four ground balls.

Taylor Miller (Medina, NY/Medina) had the lone assist for the Saxons. Paige Rowlee (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) played all 60 minutes in the net for Alfred and recorded 14 saves.

After Sage went up 2-0 to begin the game, AU stormed back with two Latranyi scores to tie the game at just under the 25 minute mark of the first half.

Sage went up 5-3 during the middle stages of the first half but Latranyi worked her way through the Gator defense for her fourth and fifth goals of the game to even the game at five with 7:48 remaining in the first half.

The Sage offense picked up from that point and scored six unanswered to end the half up 11-5.

The second half began with Sage picking up where they left off. AU went down by 10 before before breaking through in the second half with a Latranyi goal at the 21:43 mark.

Latranyi scored back to back goals with around 17 minutes to play but it was too little too late as the Saxons fell to the Gators to open Empire 8 play.

AU will be back in action next Tuesday at Keuka College with that one set to begin at 4PM.
