16 Saxons Score Goals as AU Wins Big at Sage

ALBANY, NY – The Alfred University men's lacrosse team was at The Sage Colleges on Sunday afternoon to open up Empire 8 conference play. The Saxons (4-2, 1-0 Empire 8) defeated the Gators in dominant fashion by a score of 29-2.

 

Noah Soriano (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) was the headliner for the Saxons on a day that saw 16 different players score goals.

 

Soriano finished with seven goals and one assist to lead the Saxons in points. 

 

Joe Fornataro (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) also had a big day, totaling four goals and three assists. 

 

Cale Donegan (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) continued his magical start to the season with seven total points including two goals and five assists.

 

Patrick Brewer (Bath, NY/Bath-Haverling) recorded a Hat-trick for AU to give him his third straight game with multiple goals scored.

 

Frank Gavigan (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) finished his day with two goals scored while Kyle Landrigan (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) had a goal and an assist.

 

Connor DiDomineck (Bath, NY/Haverling), Connor Prunoske (Elmira, NY/Elmira), Anthony DeMott (Long Island, NY/Half Hallow Hills West), Jon Waugh (Hamburg, NY/Bishop Timon), Jonathan Kay (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) Jake McNaney (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post), Zack Gibaud (Greece, NY/Greece Athenaand Ian Chedzoy (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) all scored one goal each.

 

Garrette Briggs (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) scored one goal while going 24-28 on face offs and leading Alfred with 14 ground balls. Anthony Ricottilli (Cortland, NY/Cortland) assisted on two goals whileShane Weber (Hull, MA/Hull) had a team high seven caused turnovers. 

 

Gage Ponsetti (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yann) picked up the win in the net and made two saves. Scott Kimiecik (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was in goal for the second half and made one save.

 

After a bit of a slow start, AU began the goal-scoring spree just before the five-minute mark of the first quarter and never looked back on its way to the lopsided victory.

 

The Saxons will look to carry the momentum into their game next Wednesday against Hilbert College at home. That one is slated to begin at 4PM.
