NORTHFIELD, Minn. – An early goal from Farid Sani and a second-half own goal sent the St. Olaf College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon at a snowy Rolf Mellby Field.

Sani scored his fifth goal in the last four games in the seventh minute for St. Olaf (7-5-0, 3-3-0 MIAC), which got an insurance goal in the 60th minute off an own goal by Augsburg (5-5-2, 1-4-0 MIAC). The Oles logged their fifth shutout of the season as junior Hamza Osman made four saves to keep the Auggies off the board.

St. Olaf got the lone goal it would need on the afternoon from Sani in the seventh minute off an assist from Lucas Gaulmin, who collected his team-leading eighth assist of the season. Gaulmin played a long ball in behind the Augsburg backline that led to a mix up between an Auggie defender and goalkeeper, resulting in an empty net for Sani.

The score remained 0-0 until the 60th minute, when Gaulmin played in a corner kick from the left that an Augsburg defender sliced into his own net to give the Oles a 2-0 lead.

Osman saved all four shots he faced in picking up his seventh victory of the season, as St. Olaf limited Augsburg to 10 total shots in the game. The Oles had 15 shots, including five on goal, in the win.

Sani and classmate Thierno Gueye each had three shots to lead St. Olaf, while Daniel Hedstrom had three for Augsburg, which was ranked as high as No. 9 in the country last month.

The Oles travel to Minnesota Morris for a non-conference contest on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m.
